Hafiz Ladell

Artists are inherently creative people, forever manifesting works of wonder and inspiration, birthing them into the world. What then? There is a danger of becoming overwhelmed – swamped, even – in magical accumulation.

I’m glad to say, I experience no such problem. As a “culinary artist”, the product of my creative process tends to disappear in short order, leaving little more than a sense of wellbeing and delight – unless, of course, I’ve had the foresight to keep a photographic record.

It’s been a while since I stepped away from mass catering and full-scale blowouts-on-demand, but I’ve recently been collating all of the recipes I’ve developed over my career. It is my intention, my current project, to make these available on my new website magiccookbook.online, so that everyone can enjoy the benefit of my lifelong fascination with vegetarian cooking.

Furthermore, I’ve written a wonderful memoir, “I Am Cooking Something Else”, the story of Oxford’s legendary Magic Café. It’s a proper treasure trove of stuff: surely somewhere in there lies the key to the mystery of creativity itself!
